Innovative. Responsive. Cost-Effective.

Founded in 2003 in Portland'’s Old Town Chinatown neighborhood, Steel Bridge addresses a range of organizational and communication challenges with innovative, responsive, cost-effective assistance. Steel Bridge helps local and international clients get their ideas across. We convert challenges into goals, action and results.

Steel Bridge Principal Associate Carol McCreary has more than twenty-five years experience initiating and managing innovative programs that develop human capacity, mobilize resources, strengthen civil society, and promote economic development. Her clients range from international corporations and United Nations agencies to small businesses and community-based organizations.

A former Peace Corps volunteer who has worked in ten nations of the Middle East and South Asia, she now devotes energy to building community in Portland. She is active in the Old Town Chinatown Neighborhood Association and serves on committees advising city officials on downtown livability and social justice issues. She holds a 1991 M.S. in Development Management and a 1977 M.A. in Teaching English as a Foreign Language.

Our name was inspired by the Steel Bridge, a much-loved landmark in Portland, Oregon not far from where we work. A designated United States National Historic Monument, the 1912 Steel Bridge is the nation’s oldest double telescoping vertical lift bridge. Today it carries passenger and freight trains, cars, busses, light-rail, pedestrians, skaters, cyclists and other wheelers over two bridge levels that lift independently to let ships pass on the Willamette River.

For us, this bridge embodies values that characterize our business: connection, innovation, reliability and strength.
